6905 Willow Street

Our team designed this “missing middle” project in Takoma Park to blend into its historic neighborhood, reinterpreting the wood siding and deep overhangs typical to houses in the area to create a contemporary expression. The distinctive butterfly roof both provides a striking silhouette and helps meet city stormwater regulations by collecting rainwater and detaining it on site. The project will provide 9 units, all “family units” with three bedrooms. As jurisdictions around the DC area are studying missing middle housing to lower housing costs and gently lift density, this project can become a model for a new wave of housing in areas traditionally limited to single family houses.
