FESSENDEN STREET KITCHEN

Eric Colbert designed this renovation of the kitchen in his own 1940s center-hall colonial house. The project involved creating a sleek new rectangular bay framed in white steel that contrasts with the house’s red brick exterior. The circulation zone between the main cooking area, located within the original footprint of the house, and the main clean-up area, in the projecting bay, is framed by glass sides, a glass skylight, and even a translucent glass floor lit from below. The lower level of the new bay provides storage space accessible from the basement.
