The Harper

1919 14th Street NW, Washington, DC

The Harper was the first new micro-unit building in DC, with most apartments in the 350-square-foot range. Because the building is somewhat larger than most of the historic structures surrounding it, we carefully sculpted the mass to provide gentle transitions in scale, including a series of four-story projecting bays and setbacks at upper levels. The profiles of cornices and spandrel panels are abstract reinterpretations of old industrial designs. The building’s structure consists of load-bearing steel studs supporting composite-deck floors.
