ALLEGRO

The site for this mixed-use project was a large but awkwardly shaped wedge of land in Columbia Heights. In order to maximize rentable space while ensuring adequate natural light in all units, ECA developed a plan reminiscent of traditional European urban buildings. Relatively narrow bands of apartments surround two courtyards appointed with built-in seating, water features, and grilling stations. The street façades are divided into bays that recall nearby row houses while injecting vertical accents to the predominantly horizontal composition.
