This project involved renovating and adding onto a historic, three-story auto repair garage. Preservation authorities allowed only one floor to be added above the existing building, so we maximized square footage with a six-story addition to one side. Because the floors in the addition did not align with those in the original, we created units with bedrooms on different levels from the main living spaces, adding depth and interest. The setback addition is clad in white metal panels, lending the existing red brick structure greater prominence while maintaining the industrial aesthetic.
