The Louis

1920 14th Street NW, Washington, DC

The Louis occupies a prominent site at the corner of two major commercial corridors: 14th Street and U Street, NW. The building steps down from north to south, mirroring the shift from dense development along U Street to row houses along T Street. Varied brick colors and window profiles break down the apparent mass of the building, while still creating a coherent composition. The project included the renovation of a row of commercial buildings and the addition of a service corridor and loading dock for the existing restaurants there.
