Room & Board

1840 14th Street NW, Washington, DC

Built as a car dealership, this building also served as a church before being converted to a furniture showroom. We worked with a historic preservation consultant to design projecting show windows, and an entrance canopy in keeping with the building’s original design. The new fourth floor is set back from the lower-level façades, allowing for terraces for the display of outdoor furniture. The loft-like interior features exposed ductwork, sprinkler lines, electrical conduit, and lighting fixtures that were carefully positioned to ensure a coherent aesthetic.
