THE HIGHLINE AT UNION MARKET

320 Florida Avenue NE, Washington, DC

The design of this building was inspired by its location in the Union Market area, DC’s longtime wholesale market complex that is now undergoing redevelopment. The brick base and the suspended metal canopy above the first floor recall the historic warehouses that accommodated rows of delivery trucks, while the massing of the upper levels evokes stacked shipping containers. ECA is also instrumental in coordinating the park on the west side of the site, which will provide a link between the Union Market community and the Metro station to the south.
